| Rosemary for Remembrance |
[Apr. 2nd, 2008|04:00 pm] |
Author: Idhren Characters: Harry, Voldemort, OC Rating: K+ Genre: General Length: 8,001 words Status: Complete Summary: On the run from Voldemort, Harry finds someone who may change the very course of the war--but at what cost? A short story in two parts.
Rosemary for Remembrance
A bit dated--the first part was written almost four years ago--but still an interesting take on what could have been.

| Fic Rec: A year like none other |
[Jul. 27th, 2007|12:43 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | complacent | ] | Is this community dead? I surely hope not because there can't be enough plot and storyline love in the fandom.
I suppose many of you know this fic already, but since it's so amazing I feel I should point it out to you. Enjoy reading.
A year like none other by Aspen in the Sunlight aspenlight Rating: PG Characters: Harry, Draco, Severus Warnings: violence, character deaths Status: Complete, 97 chapters Summary: It all started with a letter from home and family. Except, Harry doesn't really have either, does he? He's about to get them. A Snape-adopts-Harry story providing an alternate 6th year.
Why you should read this story: Awesome plot, brilliant in-character Harry, Snape and Draco. I especially enjoyed the emotional development; the growing Harry/Snape father and son relationship and all the conflicts surrounding it. What makes it so realistic is that it’s carefully developed, step-by step. The plot progresses rather slowly, but the outcome is definitely worth the wait. |

| Rec: Consolable |
[Feb. 2nd, 2006|10:27 pm] |
A friend pointed me to this fic, and since it's been rather quite here lately, I thought I'd share.
TITLE: Consolable AUTHOR: Mintha CHARACTERS: Petunia, Neville, Harry RATING: Not rated; I'd say PG SUMMARY: The summer holidays are off to their usual grim start for Petunia and Harry... but a little help is on the way.
I'm quite fond of fics that provide a peek into Petunia's mind, and this one has a rather refreshing angle, using Neville as her foil. It's sympathetic without being overly sweet. |

soror_ava was nice enough to let me use a bit of her webspace, so I've moved the Page of Gen Recs to http://jetamors.gillyweed.org. Update your bookmarks! I added a bunch of new recs, also. Hopefully with more to come, since I don't have much to do this month.

As you can see here, I've reorganized the page of gen recs. Hopefully it'll be a little easier to navigate. This will also make it easier for me to do new recs, since I don't have to do a big bunch all in one go. So I won't be announcing updates any more, or at least until I get a handle on the backlog I have now. Going to what's new should show you what's, well, new, and expect it to be more or less continuously updated for a while.

This is just a cute friendship fic. I wanted to share it with someone.
Title: Ron's Shirt Author: Azony Rated: K (G) Status: one-shot, 1350 words Summary: Ron is a bit upset - his shirt tears and is ruined, but he is eager to fix it with magic and only magic. But when Ron fails, how will Harry make him feel better?

| Resonance |
[Aug. 18th, 2005|04:34 am] |
Resonance Rated: T Characters: primarly Harry Potter and Severus Snape, some others, including author's own creation
General idea: Written between OOtP and HBP, Williams takes the semi-random phrase "And of course, Snape would no sooner let them have a day off than adopt Harry" and runs with it...having Snape do exactly that.
This is LONG...seventy-something chapters. Varies *slightly* from Canon, but respectfully so, and, of course, there wasn't as much declaration as to what was going to happen in HBP before it was published.
Really well done. The transitions can be a little choppy, but it did have me laughing out loud, gasping in shock, jumping out of my chair, and close to tears, which HBP did NOT.
Delightful read, but a NUMBER of people have claimed that they have been UTTERLY "sucked in" until they got the entire thing read, so don't start this on your work break, for instance. ;)
Diana (hi, I'm new here, and delighted to meet y'all!) |

| Christmas on the Dai Llewellyn Ward |
[Jul. 19th, 2005|11:23 pm] |
Title: Christmas on the Dai Llewellyn Ward @ the Pensieve @ the Sugar Quill Author: emily_anne Rating: PG Era: Second War (HP5) Type: General
Summary: "Lupin strolled away from the bed and over to the werewolf, who had no visitors and was looking rather wistfully at the crowd around Mr Weasley..." It’s the happiest day of the year, and the bleakest time of his life, until a complete stranger reaches out to him...
A short but sweet outtake from the fifth Harry Potter book. This has been on my favorites list for ages and is well worth the read. I love Lupin's characterization, his attitude towards his illness, and his thoughts on the real value of friendship. Go read! |

| A Drift of Azaleas |
[Jun. 27th, 2005|02:11 pm] |
Title: A Drift of Azaleas @ Sugar Quill @ FFnet Author: fernwithy Rating: PG-13 Era: Second War Type: Drama
Summary: When Sirius returns to Grimmauld Place for the first time since leaving home, he comes face to face with the mistress of the house.
This is an interesting little bit of side-story that answers a few questions from the fifth book and provides us with a bit of a look at the relationships in the Black family. I probably read it some time last year, then forgot where I'd read it, the title, and who had written it. The image of the azaleas, however, stayed with me and when I got to the Grimmauld Place chapters in my current hear-through of the fifth book, I was able to locate it via Google using "azaleas" as part of the search. It's a bit creepy, but not much more so than the chapters I'm currently listening to! |
